KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA and three major Chinese organisations have given their support for the New Economic Model (NEM) and urge the Government to ensure its effective implementation.
“NEM deserves full support from us and the society,” said party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
The three organisations are the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (ACCCIM); Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) and Malaysian Seven Major Clans Association.
All sent their highest-level leaders to the meeting with MCA yesterday.
Dr Chua said to enable the NEM objectives to be met, representatives at the meeting expressed the importance of monitoring, political will and high-level commitment at the implementation stage.
On another matter, Dr Chua said MCA and the three organisations had reached a consensus on five major areas needing the Govern-ment’s special attention in the implementation of the 10th Malaysia Plan. The areas were related to economics and education.
Dr Chua added that the concerns raised at the meeting would be included in the party’s memorandum on the 10th Malaysia Plan to be submitted to the Government.
The president said that representatives at the meeting also urged the Government to review outdated regulations which were hindering foreign investments into the country.
On human resources, he said that the employment of foreign workers should be need-based and tailored to the requirements of different economic sectors.
To stimulate economic development, Dr Chua said there was a suggestion to set up a country-based industrial zones – such as a zone for investors from China and so on.
On business development, he said loan facilities for small and medium industries should be given priority in the development package.

As for education, Dr Chua said he would announce the discussion points only after meeting the Chinese educationists Dong Jiao Zong here today.

ACCCIM president Tan Sri William Cheng, when asked about the meeting with MCA, said he hoped there would be more of such dialogues as these benefited the community.
Hua Zong president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah said the organisation would attend any dialogue that raised issues affecting the Chinese community.
Malaysia Seven Major Clans Association chairman Datuk Kong Heng Sze said the dialogue was a good platform to deliberate issues affecting the Chinese.
