Wee: MCA Youth backs Loh
KUALA LUMPUR (April 5, 2010): MCA Youth chief Datuk Wee Ka Siong said today the wing stands fully behind its deputy secretary Loh Chew June, who had described Pertubuhan Peribumi Perkasa Negara (Perkasa) as being racist.
Perkasa youth chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah had called for Loh to be suspended or sacked if he failed to apologise for the remark within a 48-hour period, which began last Friday
"MCA Youth is giving full support to Loh, because he merely stated the perspective of MCA Youth, and Perkasa should respect Loh's right to speak.
"We are united in our support of Loh. When this news was reported in the media, I was the first to call him and leave a message on his Facebook page pledging our support," said Wee.
"He made a fair comment that was not intended to stir things up. The party president will not sack or suspend Loh. Such actions, to sack or suspend any party member from their posts are the internal actions of our party, and our absolute right," he added.
Meanwhile, asked whether MCA Wanita chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun was being persuaded not to quit her post, Wee said that it would be difficult to persuade her to change her mind once she had made a decision.
"She's an iron lady, and she has been very firm in her decision all this while. This is the Chew Mei Fun I know, and we have to leave it to her to come to a decision whether to stay on or not. You cannot force her,"
Chew had pledged to resign if Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek was elected as the party president.
"She has been a very good leader, upholding the integrity of the party. I will respect her decision whatever it may be. I do not sense any indication that she wants to stay on," added Wee. -- theSun
